The Adventures of Xiao Huang – Toy Shopping in Perth, Australia 2010

February 24, 2011

Woof woof! Doggie did (ok, the correct word should be attempted) some toy shopping in Perth in Western Australia in 2010 when he was there. However, the sad news is that the selection there wasn’t very good and doggie came back empty-handed.

Here's Xiao Huang at Changi Airport ready to go shopping in Perth!

One observation is that the ang mos in Perth really know how to enjoy themselves and their lifestyle is pretty relac lo. Most shops close around 5-6pm on weekdays and weekends, except on Fridays where there’s extended shopping hours (till 9pm I think). During Xiao Huaung’s 4 days stay in Perth, he was staying near the Perth Central CBD area and there’s where he mostly shopped (yes, because he is too lazy to walk too far). After 6pm, the CBD area will machiam like suddenly become “Hantu” city (because bo lang there one).

The Adventures of Xiao Huang – Toy Shopping in Hong Kong 2010 (小黄香港买玩具)

April 16, 2010

This post is basically a short list of the locations where doggie shopped at for toys during my Mar 2010 Hong Kong trip. Due to doggie’s sore paws from walking long distances, doggie was unable to take photos of the locations (actually, doggie was just too lazy and needed an excuse). 😛

Here's Xiao Huang getting his haversack ready for toy shopping in Hong Kong

Click on the link below for the full list of toy shopping locations patronised by doggie.

Playmobil Police Car

April 8, 2010

Most of the people I know who fall into my age group grew up playing with Playmobil (unless they do not have a childhood :-P).

I still recalled that my dad bought my brother and myself the cowboy and red Indians Playmobil set way back in the 1980s, and it kept us entertained for countless hours. In fact, I was so obsessed with the playset that I slept with them on my bed, resulting in broken hands for the cowboy figures (sorry bro, I have finally mustered enough courage to make this confession and I am sorry that you got blamed for all the broken figures last time) 😛

While I still have some of the old figures from way back, they are all in a state of disrepair and I have since retired them to my Playmobil mortuary for their well deserved rest. They have served their master well. Amen.

It would therefore, be incorrect to say that the Playmobil Police Car set which I am going to show in this post is my very 1st set. However, it will not be incorrect to say that it was the 1st set which I bought from overseas with my own pay check. Yes, this set was actually bought in London when I went backpacking there in 2003.

Being the impulsive buyer that I am who is sometimes (ok. ok. usually) prone to acts of stupidity, I had bought the set in one of the London shop and lagged it around throughout my trip, when I could have also gotten the same set back in Singapore. But well, as they say, no point in bringing up the past.

Anyway, this set remains one of my favourite Playmobil set because well, er, its just nice I guess. Need a Police car with officers to patrol your toy town. No problem! Need a Police car to save your trapped Playmobil cat on a tree? No problem! Need a …Ok. You get the point and I rest my case. Go get one for yourself and your kids now. This is an order! 🙂

Boredom is dangerous.

I used to have a neighbour when I was young who will conduct extreme acts of stupidity when he was bored (like trying to hold on to burning match-sticks in both his hands and challenging himself on which hand can hold on the longest). His antics, while often inducing “Ohs” and “Ahs” from impressionable young children like myself, often resulted in multiple injuries sustained to various parts of his body. Come to think of it, I don’t recall ever seeing him without any bandages on any parts of his body at any one time.

In fact, I believe I was conceived on a fateful stormy evening night because of boredom between my parents. However, since this is a child friendly blog, I will abstain from dwelling on this issue to save you the pain.

So why am I talking about boredom? Well, because it is boredom which resulted in me setting up this dangerously boring blog. I hear you readers asking “Enough crap. So what the **** is this blog about?” Fret not, cause the answer is….

Toys. Yes. This blog will be about me rumbling about my toys and sometimes other crap about my life and surroundings. Pictures of my collections, taken with a faithfully obsolete Panasonic DMC FX01 camera with a whopping 6 megapixel (my wife’s tacky camera phone has a higher megapixel rating), will be posted. Given the high tech and sophisticated equipment in my possession, I am sure you can forgive me for all the blurry pictures present in this blog.

Anyway, my collection includes mostly Medicom Kubricks, Bearbricks, Legos, Playmobils and other toys which I sometimes bought on impulse. I don’t know why, but I have this fixation on block/brick figures. Maybe its the simplicity of the design that attract me, or maybe its just that I am a blockhead and share certain similarities with such toys. One thing I have to admit is that this bricky fixation is here to stay. This translate to me sharing with you in the hope that you will be enticed to join me in this unrecommended vice.

Show me some loove! Babeee!
